Tips and Tricks to complete a scholarship application and essays
The Ascension Saint Thomas Foundations Scholarship awards scholarships to qualified associates who wish to further their education through a degreed program at an accredited college or university.
Scholarships are given to associates from across our ministry pursuing associate’s, bachelor’s, and advanced degrees in fields of study including Nursing, Business Administration, Communications and more.
Enrollment/Eligibility
- Recipients must be enrolled as a student at the accredited college identified on the scholarship application and pursuing the degree indicated.
- The recipient must earn a passing grade in a pass/fail grading system or a cumulative minimum grade point average of 2.5 for non-nursing undergraduate studies, 3.0 for nursing degree programs and a 3.5 for graduate nursing degree programs during the applicable academic period.
- They must work at Ascension Saint Thomas in a Full-Time, Part-Time or PRN position a minimum of twenty (20) hour work week during the work commitment period.
- The recipient must be an Ascension Saint Thomas employee six months from the application due date, May 15th, 2025 This would require the associate to have started by November 15th, 2024.
- Recipient is expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress. If applying for a scholarship in future years, transcripts of grades from this academic year will be required to apply again and used to determine merit of future awards.
Ascension Saint Thomas Foundations Scholarship Requirements
Ascension Saint Thomas Scholars must be actively enrolled in the Scholars program and be in good standing.
There should be a reasonable expectation that Scholars will attend an accredited college or university in the Middle Tennessee region and plan to eventually work in Middle Tennessee.
The requirement for work hours is suspended for Scholars who are often high school seniors.
Ascension Youth Associate Requirements
Must be currently working a minimum of 10 hours per week in a Youth Associate role at an Ascension.
Saint Thomas Hospital or Ascension Medical Group Clinic.
Must be in good standing with their Ascension leader.
There should be a reasonable expectation that Youth Associates will attend an accredited college or university in the Middle Tennessee region and plan to eventually work in Middle Tennessee.
Please coordinate with your assigned Ascension Youth Associate contact for your campus.
Applications open April 1st and close May 15th each year.
Once a candidate is deemed eligible for consideration, all applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Those applicants who demonstrate strong academic ability, a commitment to Ascension Saint Thomas and the mission, an interest in pursuing a field of study that meets industry demand and have financial need shall be given first consideration.
Scholarship awards are ultimately based on availability of funds and the Foundation’s ability to make awards from restricted funds with specific parameters as determined by the donor. Once a recipient is notified, they have received an award, all scholarship recipients must also comply with the following:
- Scholarship recipients are required to participate in our donor stewardship program by providing thank-you notes whenever a specific donor is involved in an award. Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation will notify those recipients who are required to comply.
- On occasion donors enjoy meeting their scholarship recipients and mandatory events or gatherings will occur to facilitate an opportunity for donors and recipients to meet. Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation will notify those recipients who are required to comply.
- The scholarship program is intended to provide educational opportunities to Ascension Saint Thomas Associates who will then serve the institution and its patients with enhanced knowledge and skill. We ask that no Associate apply who has knowledge or intention of leaving Ascension Saint Thomas during a school term or within 12 months after graduation. Some funds have specific guidelines on reimbursement should this occur. Ascension Saint Thomas reserves the right to seek scholarship reimbursement from those recipients who leave Ascension Saint Thomas within 12 months after the school term a scholarship award was used.
Application Process
This application must be filled out in its entirety before submission and before the deadline date. A copy of your transcript and a manager recommendation are required. An endorsement email can be sent to your manager to submit their endorsement. You will have to submit your application by the deadline date of May 15th each year.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30th, 2025. Checks will be mailed directly to recipients in July or August.
Scholarship Payment
The Ascension Saint Thomas Foundations Scholarship will be applied directly to the recipients educational expenses for the 2025-2026 school year. The Edcor Scholarship Administration will expedite payment to the home address stated on the application and made payable to the school listed on the application.
