Nicklaus Children's Hospital Announces: The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Employee Dependent Scholarship Program!

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Employee Dependent Scholarship Program. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has developed an Employee Dependent Scholarship Program (EDSP) to provide scholarships to employee dependents of eligible NCHS employees. This one-time scholarship is intended to assist eligible employees the opportunity to support the cost of college or vocational-technical program tuition for their dependents. 

EDSP Awards will be offered to exceptional students pursuing an education in a healthcare related field or healthcare supporting degree program.

The EDSP annual award amount per recipient is subject to available funding and will be determined annually by Talent Management & Effectiveness. Applicants studying with a health care field or within a healthcare supporting field will receive a varying scholarship amount up to $3,000. Health care supporting fields include, but not limited to, Marketing/Public Relations, Hospitality & Management, Information Technology, Legal, Architecture, Construction, or Culinary. Health care supporting fields include, but not limited to, Marketing/Public Relations, Hospitality & Management, Information Technology, Legal, Architecture, Construction, or Culinary.

The awardee will receive the scholarship as a one-time achievement. Scholarship renewals will not be granted after a scholarship has been awarded.

EDSP funding is limited to Fall enrollment. The award funding to the recipient is done in one installment, based upon eligibility for the scholarship.

Scholarship monies awarded to dependents will be reported as taxable income on the following paycheck of their parent or legal guardian, employed by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, after payment is submitted to the school. Parent or legal guardian will receive a lower net check on that payroll as they will be paying taxes on the full awarded amount paid. Taxes will be deducted in full, on one payroll Nicklaus Children’s Hospital does not guarantee the tax treatment of the Employee Dependent Scholarship Program.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, the employee dependent applicant must:

  • Be an unmarried, dependent* child under the age of 26 (at the time of the application deadline) of a Nicklaus Children’s Health System employee.  The parent or legal guardian of the applicant must be a full-time or part-time employee, in good performance standing, with a minimum of one year of service as of the date of the application deadline.

  • Be enrolled in a full-time (12 earned credits or more per semester/term, or the equivalent) undergraduate degree program at an accredited two-year, four-year, or vocational-technical educational institution for the entire upcoming academic year. 

  • The program should be in a healthcare related field or healthcare supporting field such as, but not limited to, Marketing/Public Relations, Hospitality & Management, Information Technology, Legal, Architecture, Construction, or Culinary. 

  • Student must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA. 

* “Dependent” refers to a biological child, adopted child, stepchild, or child for whom the employee is the permanent legal guardian.

Application Process. To apply for the Employee Dependent Scholarship Program, interested students must complete the online application and provide additional supporting requirements. Dependents must create the account and use an email address not affiliated with their high school. Following a review of student applications, scholarship awardees will be selected by a committee at Edcor Data Services (Edcor), the third-party administrator overseeing the application process. 

A parent or Guardian MAY NOT create the account and have the student complete the application under their account, it must be in the student’s name and email address.

Application Requirements

The applicant must complete the Scholarship application by the deadline, including the following additional documents: 

  • 300-500 word essay describing why the applicant is pursuing the chosen school program

  • Two letters of recommendation (Instructor and Professional);

  • Official high school or college transcript; and

  • Letter of acceptance from degree and/or vocational program or proof of enrollment.

 *All complete applications will be reviewed and evaluated

Award notifications: Late June through 1st Week of July

Payments made: July (late)

Selection Process

Once the application is received, the information will be reviewed by Talent Management & Effectiveness to verify eligibility. If selected, the award amount will vary and be  determined by NCHS in its sole discretion.

Disclaimer: Regarding tuition payments made on behalf of employees’ children, Scholarship monies awarded to dependents will be reported as taxable income on the following paycheck after payment is submitted to the school.
