Nicklaus Children's Hospital Announces:
The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Nurse Scholars Program for New Nurses attending
Florida International University's Generic Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program (BSN)!
On Monday November 4th 2024, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital launched its Nurse Scholars Program in which students accepted into Florida International University’s (FIU) Generic Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program (BSN) will have the opportunity to receive an award toward their Nursing Degree.
The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Nurse Scholars Program. Nicklaus Children's Hospital’s Nurse Scholars Program is intended to attract and encourage a new generation of nurses to enter the profession. Each fall and spring semester, Nicklaus Children's Hospital will select up to ten “Nurse Scholars” to receive an award towards tuition payments at their post-secondary institution (Nurse Scholars Program Award)!
Nurse Scholars Awards will be offered to exceptional incoming student nurses accepted in FIU’s BSN program who demonstrate a passion for pediatric nursing and a balance of academic achievement, leadership, and commitment. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will pay each Nurse Scholars Award directly to the FIU, where it will be applied to pay the Nurse Scholar's tuition. The Nurse Scholar will be responsible for any additional costs or fees imposed.
Nurse Scholars will be required to meet certain academic requirements throughout the entirety of their participation in the Nurse Scholars Program, as well as other requirements, such as entering a post-graduation work commitment should the Nurse Scholar be offered permanent employment.
Required Employment with Nicklaus Children's Hospital (post award). Nurse Scholars must fulfill their clinical obligations under their nursing program and work as care assistants through Nicklaus Children's Hospital Student Nurse Intern Program (SNIP) while enrolled in school.
Nurse Scholars employed as care assistants through the SNIP will gain unique insight into the field of pediatric nursing. Any pediatric and practicum experiences required by the program will be completed within Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Nurse Scholars will be paid on a per-diem basis for their work as SNIP care assistants and will need to fulfill a minimum of one work shift per pay period.
Following their successful completion of their nursing program, Nurse Scholars must apply for a registered nurse (RN) position through Nicklaus Children's Hospital's Horizon Nurse Residency Program (Horizon Nurse Residency Program). If Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers the Nurse Scholar a position through the Horizon Nurse Residency Program, the Nurse Scholar must fulfill a 2-year employment commitment.
Nurse Scholars will receive additional information on the Horizon Nurse Residency Program as they approach graduation from their respective nursing program.
Award Details:
An award for applicants that will be reviewed by a committee with Edcor and a final selection committee by Nicklaus Children's Hospital.
Award Eligibility:
Applicants must meet all the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship:
You must be eligible to work in the United States
You must be a Florida resident eligible for in-state tuition
You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
You must have an acceptance letter into a qualified nursing program. You must be accepted into the qualified nursing program.
Applicant must submit ALL completed materials by the deadline (no extensions will be allowed)
You must interview with a committee prior to final award
Interview Candidate Dates: December 2nd to 5th
Additionally, for current Nicklaus Children’s Hospital employees:
You must have no corrective action during the last 12 months
You must have a minimum of a Strong Performer rating in the most recent annual evaluation
Up to Fourteen(14) participants will be awarded for the Spring Application.
Students accepted into the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Nurse Scholars Program are provided an award towards school tuition. Award is paid directly to the school. Nurse scholars will be responsible for additional costs in excess to the award amount.
Application Requirements:
If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may continue on to complete an online application for the Nicklaus Children’s Nurse Scholars Program. A complete application includes the following:
Completed and electronically signed application form
A letter of full acceptance from a qualified nursing program
Most recent, transcripts / grades (unofficial accepted)
Professional resume
Personal Essay
Two recommendation forms (academic and professional/personal)
For Nicklaus Children’s Hospital employees: one letter of recommendation completed by manager/supervisor.
Requirements for Awardees
Awardees of the scholarship must accept the tuition award via the Edcor scholarship website and complete the required tasks. To accept the tuition award, you must complete the award Acceptance Form, sign the agreement letter, provide proof of enrollment and acceptance letter from your nursing program, upload a picture of yourself, and confirm your email address.
