Nicklaus Children's Hospital Announces:

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Nurse Scholars Program for New Nurses!

On Wednesday, November 1st 2023, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital launched its Nurse Scholars Program in which students accepted into Florida International University’s (FIU) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program (BSN) will have the opportunity to receive an award toward their BSN.

The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Nurse Scholars Program. Nicklaus Children's Hospital’s Nurse Scholars Program is intended to attract and encourage a new generation of nurses to enter the profession. Each fall and spring semester, Nicklaus Children's Hospital will select up to ten “Nurse Scholars” to receive an award of up to $20,000 towards tuition payments at FIU (Nurse Scholars Program Award)!

Nurse Scholars Awards will be offered to exceptional incoming student nurses accepted in FIU’s BSN program who demonstrate a passion for pediatric nursing and a balance of academic achievement, leadership, and commitment. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will pay each Nurse Scholars Award directly to FIU, where it will be applied to pay the Nurse Scholar's tuition. The Nurse Scholar will be responsible for any additional costs or fees imposed by FIU.

Nurse Scholars will be required to meet certain academic requirements throughout the entirety of their participation in the Nurse Scholars Program, as well as other requirements, such as entering a post-graduation work commitment should the Nurse Scholar be offered permanent employment.

Required Employment with Nicklaus Children's Hospital (post award). FIU’s BSN program provides students with five semesters of didactic instruction and clinical work experience. Nurse Scholars must fulfill their clinical obligations under the BSN program and work as care assistants through Nicklaus Children's Hospital Student Nurse Intern Program (SNIP) while enrolled in school.

Nurse Scholars employed as care assistants through the SNIP will gain unique insight into the field of pediatric nursing. Any pediatric and practicum experiences required by the ASN will be completed within Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Nurse Scholars will be paid on a per-diem basis for their work as SNIP care assistants and will need to fulfill a minimum of one work shift per pay period.

Following their successful completion of the FIU’s BSN program, Nurse Scholars must apply for a registered nurse (RN) position through Nicklaus Children's Hospital's Horizon Nurse Residency Program (Horizon Nurse Residency Program). If Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers the Nurse Scholar a position through the Horizon Nurse Residency Program, the Nurse Scholar must fulfill a 2-year employment commitment

Nurse Scholars will receive additional information on the Horizon Nurse Residency Program as they approach graduation from FIU’s BSN program.
